World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the globe and celebrate the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 82.4 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced by the end of 2020 as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations, or events seriously disturbing public order. The day is observed around the world to draw attention to the plight of refugees and mobilize political will and resources to urgently help the people rebuild their lives. The Theme of 2021 World Refugee Day is “Together we heal, learn and shine”.
