ACTIVISM ALONG THE AGRICULTURAL, FISHERY, DAIRY AND HORTICULTURE VALUE CHAIN

Since the commencement of CODEC, it has lived to work for improving the lives & health of the coastal people of Bangladesh. The very existence of CODEC is to limit the struggle in the lives of the coastal folks, and for that, it encourages any type of livelihood project that helps in improving the current situation. Although the fishery characterizes the typical coastal economy, agriculture is gaining momentum. But the coastal physical environment is negatively affected by increasing water and soil salinity, accompanied with drought and water scarcity in certain areas. CODEC’s Agricultural, Fishery, Dairy and Horticulture Value Chain aims to contribute to achieve food security, and reducing hunger and malnutrition through environmentally sustainable practices. Each family, depending on their resources and needs receives a unique plan. Existing and new concepts are provided for adaptation in agriculture, fishery, livestock, dairy, salinity. Market oriented supply of agricultural inputs are also facilitated through community groups & micro entrepreneurs. And Based on our experience, CODEC has identified some key areas that need to be addressed the perspectives issue of market access and fair competition such as adopting climate friendly technical assistance and linkage development between supplier & consumer

CODEC-NATUN ALO PROJECT (2ND PHASE)

CODEC- Notunalo project, funded by Strome Foundation, started its journey since July 2011 and ended at December 2016. But there is huge demand in neighboring communities and Unions for scaling up the good experiences of NotunAlo project to address their extreme poverty who have been suffering with extreme vulnerability for long time. Then, Notunalo started its 2nd phase from 2017 and the overall goal of this project is to contribute to sustainable well-being and resilience of 1500 marginalized families of Mirzagonj, upazila under Potuakhali District through social and economic empowerment with dignity by the end of 2021. Annual Approved Budget is BDT 5,720,075/-.

SAFE AQUA FARMING FOR ECONOMIC AND TRADE IMPROVEMENT (SAFETI)

The aim of Safe Aqua Farming for Economic and Trade Improvement (SAFETI) project, a five-year project funded by Winrock International to increase shrimp and prawn productivity and production, and to increase trade value and exports. CODEC-SAFETI project supports 7500 shrimp and prawn farmers from 03 Upazilas (Bagerhat Sadar, Rampal and Chitolmari) under Bagerhat district to increase the production by disseminating semi-intensive technology, expanding awareness of need for clean seed, supporting post-harvest improvements for export marketing and facilitating to find out financial resources for adopting project-promoted improved inputs, practices and technologies. Annual Approved Budget is BDT 1,70, 09,317.48/-.

CODEC-WFP SELF-RELIENCE PROJECT

CODEC-WFP Self-Relience Project is being implemented at unregistered camp settlements in Ukhiya Upazila under Cox’s Bazar District. The project is funded by World Food Programme (WFP) and will be implemented from March 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021. The total budget of the project is BDT 10,50,00,000.00/-. The project works to improve agriculture & aquaculture and provide centre based training and protection to the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN). The main objective of the project is to Strengthen food security through urban agriculture and support economic empowerment focusing on demand created by the camp itself. Through the project, CODEC will provide Improved food security of 9000 vulnerable HH participants through urban agriculture &aquaculture and enhance skills of 1000 adult youth producing handicrafts and itemized foods through center-based livelihood training.
